Minipresso Portable Espresso Maker

Starbucks Via might have revolutionized backcountry coffee consumption, but when it comes right down to it, it’s still…Starbucks. And it’s still coffee, not that rich, aromatic elixir of the gods known as espresso. But a new, ingenious little device coming out early next year could brighten those dark desperate hours when you’re craving something more than simply caffeine, when you need energy with culture, when you need to uplift the spirit as well as brain function, and it’s called Minipresso.

Think of it as a bike pump that fills your heart instead of your tires. The .8-pound, seven-inch device has chambers for hot water and air — you add the water, add ground coffee beans or an espresso pod, pump the exterior button and, voila, you’re in steaming, gleaming business.

Minipress will be $49 when it hits retail in early 2015, but you can pre-order it now for $39.
