Everest 2012: Live Daily Everest Expedition Updates Begin!
Do you want to know what it’s really like to climb Everest? To say goodbye to the people you love most, to get sick with the Khumbu Crud, to tempt fate on the treacherous ladders in the Khumbu Icefall, to be surrounded by the most iconic mountains in the world? And that’s before the climbing even starts.
This week we blew the doors off our Everest expedition with live daily coverage in the National Geographic magazine iPad app (May 2012 edition). You can get a taste of it on the web at Field Test: Everest. Follow Conrad Anker, Cory Richards, Mark Jenkins, and the team as they make two attempts on the mountain: the Southeast Ridge and the West Ridge. These two approaches retrace the 1963 American route up the mountain, nearly 50 years later. Only Cory and Conrad will attempt the risky West Ridge. Right now the team has gone up and down from Camps I and II. And a summit attempt will likely happen early this year.
It’s an exhilarating and emotional ride to the roof of the world. Join us.
