This Weekend: First Annual Mountain Summit in Aspen, August 27 to 30

The directors of Mountainfilm in Telluride—which is seriously one of our favorite weekends of the year, thanks to its appealing mix of stunning location, thoughtful films, and stimulating discussions—are launching a new event this weekend: Mountain Summit in Aspen. Think of it as Mountainfilm Lite.

"Mountain Summit captures the essence of Mountainfilm, but not quite the scope," says executive director Peter Kenworthy of the shorter, leaner weekend of programming. "This is our first attempt to take Mountainfilm on the road, and if successful, we hope to use it as a template for additional expanded Mountainfilm on Tour shows in other markets around the country." This is good news for everyone.

Some of this weekend's film highlights include Horse Boy, which was nominated fora Grand Jury Award at Sundance, and The Cove, a controversial new film about an annual dolphin slaughter in Japan.

American mountaineers Jim Whittaker and Ed Viesturs will be special guests.
