Music Wednesday: Sounds Electrico Juana Molina, electronic folk from Argentina

If I were to tell you that the former star of a popular Argentine sitcom (La Noticia Rebelde) and the country's most famous comedian is now its most critically acclaimed musician, would you believe me? Probably not, but that's understandable—there's a lot about Juana Molina that is slightly surreal. Her sound, for example: It's old and new at the same time, folksy and avant-garde, cacophonous and melodic. Her new album, and single, "Un Día," demonstrates this perfectly. Here's a more mellow track from her album Tres Cosas, La Verdad.

If you ever get the chance to see Molina perform live, do. It's a treat. She’s on stage alone, and plays every instrument, looping tracks back on themselves and creating her strange tapestry of sound right there—a true performance.
